The Chosen - Malters Development Essays - The Chosen, The Promise

The Chosen - Malter's Development One of the most passionate scenes from Chaim Potok's The Chosen is when Reuven goes with Danny Saunders to converse with his dad. Danny has an incredible brain and needs to utilize it to contemplate brain science, not become a Hasidic tzaddik. The two go into Reb Saunders' examination to disclose to him what will occur, and before Danny can bring it up, his dad does. Reb Saunders discloses to the two companions that he definitely known that Reuven will go for his smicha and Danny, who is in line to become the following tzaddik of his kin, won't. This identifies with the theme of Distinction and the subject of Danny's decision of going with the family tradition or to what his heart drives him. The most creating character from the novel is Reuven Malter. One of the ways that he developes in the novel is in hus understanding of kinship. His fellowship with Dfanny Saunders is supported by his dad, yet he is careful about it from the start in light of the fact that Danny is a Hasid, what's more, views normal Orthodox Jews as apikorsim due to the lessons of his dad. Reuven goes from not having the option to have a common discussion with Danny to turning into his closest companion with whom he spens the entirety of his available time, considers Talmud and heads off to college. Reuven genuinely develops on the grounds that he inclines, as his dad says, what it is to be a companion. Another way that Reuven develops is that he figures out how to appreciate various individuals and their thoughts. He begins loathing Hasidim on the grounds that it's the devout activity, despite the fact that his dad (who I see as the Atticus Finch of this novel) continues disclosing to him that it's alright to can't help contradicting thoughts, however despising an individual in view of them is horrendous. Through his fellowship with Danny, concentrates with Reb Saunders, brief pound on Danny's sister (who was never given a name), furthermore, time spent in the Hasidic people group, he discovers that Hasids are individuals too with their own thoughts and convictions that are as important as his. He realizes why they think, act, talk, and dress the way that they do and grasps the way that he doesn't have an imposing business model on temperance. A third manner by which Reuven develops, however the book doesn't truly talk about it a lot, is in his valuation forever, or cha'im in Hebrew. He nearly loses his vision, his dad about works himself to death, 6,000,000 Jews are butchered in Europe, and Danny's sibling's unexpected frailty compromises Danny's decision to not turn into a tzaddik. At the point when his eye is faulty he can't peruse, and in reality does comment that it's hard to live without perusing, particularly with an insatiable hunger for learning, for example, his. His dad nearly bites the dust twice and he discusses that it is so hard to live in solitude in quietness (which is an allegory suggesting Danny's regular day to day existence) for the month while his dad is in the clinic. He sees Reb Saunders what's more, his dad feeling the enduring of the 6,000,000 dead, Saunders by crying and being quiet, David Malter by working for the creation of a Jewish state and being an innovator in the development, notwithstanding instructing at a yeshiva and grown-up training classes. What's more, obviously Danny is exceptionally stressed by his sibling's sickness (hemophillia?) supposing that he kicks the bucket it will be even harded for Danny to turn down his tzaddikship. By the finish of the book, Reuven Malter is an extremely changed character. Potok is a specialist with utilizing suggestion and allegory. Very inconspicuously all through the book he utilizes this for the motivations behind renforcing his focuses, portending, and to make the book a superior read when you've perused it beforehand and know the result. One case of this, one that I missed the first occasion when I read the book in seventh grade is the passage toward the finish of section nine where Reuven is perched on his patio and sees a fly caught in a cobweb's with the 8-legged creature manufacturer drawing nearer. He blows on the fly, first delicately,

Cath Anne: [00:01:56] So today we are doing something a little different. I am sharing a little bit more about my life as a freelancer. And today Im providing you with five things I absolutely can not live without as a freelancer and I hope as students you will relate to this to as many of you know I have been writing with Homework Help Global for over three years and it is a wonderful organization to work for. I am so happy that they helped me kick off my freelance lifestyle and I cant wait to share with you the many things that I cannot live with in my day as a freelancer. OK so a number one on my list. Are these Bose over the ear headphones. Now these are amazing headphones and they were actually gifted to me from my friends at Homework Help Global because we do an amazing podcast which Ill talk about a little bit later. Cath Anne: [00:03:01] These Bose headphones are so amazing. I cannot even express to you how great they are. I dont know what I did without them. Actually I cannot really hear myself talking at the moment because they work so well. I hope Im not talking too loud. But yes, so Ill just see if you guys can see the label there. So these Bose headphones these ones are not wireless. However I do believe you can get wireless ones. Now these are a little bit older however. They work super well. They work well for everything I need them for which I think is a huge testament to the brand Bose itself and I should mention this isnt a paid collaboration or anything like that. Im not being paid to say this. Im just telling you about the amazing things that I need on a day to day basis and this is one of them. Cath Anne: [00:03:57] Whether I am going out into the community to a meeting and I decide to walk I take these with me if Im going to the cafe to do some work these work amazing because I can listen to my music and they block out all the surrounding noise around me while Im also able to be around people and see people I know. The other thing that I really love these for is for podcasting. So we do a great podcast called Student influencers podcast where we talk to students and influencers from all around the world. So whether it is in India or in the US or in Canada we talk to influencers from across the world. And these are the headphones that I use for that. Why are these great for that podcast. Well theyre wonderful because they block out the sound. So when I use my highly sensitive microphone the Yeti stereo microphone these are blocked with the noise coming through from the other end which is absolutely perfect for podcasting because you dont want any noise interference when yo u are podcasting. Now I should mention that if you guys want to be involved in the student influencers podcast make sure to find us on Instagram or email us all of our information is linked in listed in the description box below and connect with us. If you think that a podcast would be interesting to be a participant in if you have a unique vision. If you are an influencer or a student we would love to hear from you. So make sure to hit us up and let us know that youre interested. Cath Anne: [00:05:37] Finally make sure you take a listen to our student influencers podcast and we will also link that in the description multiple though so you can check it out. So the second thing that I absolutely cannot live without. And if youre a follower of the channel you may recognize this from some of our other videos where Ive discussed it in passing or blatantly is a moleskin notebook. I absolutely love these notebooks for many reasons. So the first reason I love moleskin notebook is because its black, its very streamlined and it looks professional when I go into a meeting and I can take notes really easily. Cath Anne: [00:06:15] I love that I can take this wherever I go it fits easily into my backpack or my laptop bag and what I really love about it is that when I take notes or make my daily to do lists everything is in the same book. So I usually invest in one or two of these notebooks at the beginning of the year and they usually both last me throughout the year which I absolutely love keeping everything in one place or one notebook is a lot more organized than only having different random pieces of paper all around the place. So if you are a student or if you are a freelancer I highly recommend getting a few moleskin notebooks, labelling them if you want to and using them to your advantage. Another really great way that I love to use my moleskin notebook is to make my daily to do list and lets see if I can find one here for you. Cath Anne: [00:07:08] So here is an example of my one of my daily to do lists. So what I do on a daily basis is I go through my agenda and I look at what I have on the agenda for the day and if I have any specific deadlines I then write that down in my daily to do list and when I have finished a task I check it off with a colored marker or a colored pen. Cath Anne: [00:07:34] Now Ill tell you why this is beneficial. 1 When you write things down you can prioritize. So I would recommend prioritizing three tasks in the day by limiting your tasks to three. You are allowing yourself to be more productive and avoiding the overwhelm that comes with too many tasks. Even though I do write down other smaller tasks throughout the day I definitely prioritize only three tasks for the day. And this is something that I would recommend to you whether youre a freelancer a person that works in an office or if youre a student. The second reason that I think writing your lists like this is a great idea is because you can go through and check things off checking things off. Especially in a different color allows you to increase your motivation. So once you have finished one of your priorities for the day. Check that off and it is going to make you feel productive and that you have completed something. Its going to give you energy and fuel to move on to your next task. Finally one of my favorite reasons for using a most skin notebook is that it allows me to have a log of all of the work that Ive completed. So if youre like me you might be a person who never thinks they do enough. So in a day you might do a ton of different tasks but you dont write them down or you dont document them in any way. And I think this can relate to a student anyone in their own business. A freelancer or even anyone who is working in a 9 to 5 type of traditional job. When you write things down in list form and check them off it gives you an intentional log of what you have done for the day. So if you have a tendency to get down on yourself or think youre not doing enough go back to your notebook and look at what you have done in the day and you will realize that you are much more productive than you ever thought. So the third thing that I absolutely can not live without and Im sure Im not the only one is of course my phone and my lightning charger now beca use I am a freelancer. I go out into community a lot I have meetings I go to cafes to work and even when Im home I use my phone a lot. I have a lot of different apps on there. I do a lot of other peoples social media so having a lightning charger or several is absolutely integral to the work I try to never leave the house without taking my lightning charger with me. And if youre like me I would recommend that you do the same. So definitely my phone and my lightning charger are up there on things that I can not live without. I also wanted to mention that I have a lot of really great apps for productivity for meal ducking for work tracking and for invoicing things like that around freelancing and I was wondering if anyone would have an interest in me providing some info around that. So that something that you are interested in if youd like to know some of my favorite apps that are on my phone. Definitely jump into the comments section below and let us know if that is something that yo ud be interested in hearing about. OK. Cath Anne: [00:11:01] So the next thing that I wanted to mention is something that is relatively new to me and that is theres a little wallet and you might be like whatever its just a wallet. However it is simply perfect for carrying business cards. And this is something that I always tend to forget when I go out into community or to meetings which is so silly because people ask for your business card and Im not used to carrying one. So this little number has been great for me to just throw in my bag throw my laptop bag and take with me this little wallet is from a brand called some mirror and they make a vegan leather products and its just perfect. This little one is just perfect for carrying business cards so Ill show you it just pops open like this and then I keep my business cards right in here which I absolutely love. So the other reason I really love this is because its also perfect for when people give me their business cards I can keep it in here and then I have everyones bu siness card all in one spot. Even though we are living in a digital age and we communicate a lot on our computers there is something to be said about carrying a business card and having a snapshot of who you are what you do and how to get a hold of you. So I definitely recommend if youre in your third or fourth year of university to look into getting a business card created with your profession and your future degree on it. This will come in handy at networking events and let people know how to get hold of you. So this one is going to be a little bit silly but the this saying that I simply cannot live without. As a freelancer. Are my plants and my candles. And this might be something that youve noticed. If youve been watching our videos for a while I always have plants in the background and I usually have a candle lit and Ill tell you why this is. I work a lot from home. I do go out to community sometimes however most of my days are spent at home so I want to make sure that I can se t the tone for when Im working. Every morning when I wake up. Before I start working I light a vanilla scented candle. Ive really been loving the vanilla candles from Ikea. I also like vanilla soy candles and green apple candles have really been up there lately for me too. I always also have at least one or two plants on my desk at any given time as well as. Throughout my house. And Ill tell you why this is this is because I work alone. I work by myself and I work in my house. I need things that are going to inspire me. I mean things that are going to set the tone for my work day. Its really easy to get distracted by the dishes or the laundry that has to be done. So setting the tone for my day and placing beautiful things around me inspires me to create and motivates me to keep going throughout the day. Now this isnt just for freelancers. This is something that I would recommend for anyone thats working from home. And this includes people like students. So when you are going to stud y light a candle diffuse some essential oils or put some plants around you. This is going to help you to focus and to feel relaxed when you are trying to do something that is maybe not your favorite activity. I talk more about this in episode 53 of The Homework Help Show so definitely make sure to check that out and we will link that in the description box below. Cath Anne: [00:14:49] OK guys so thats it for me this week. I hope that you enjoyed this video and that this is the style of video that youd like to see more of. Essay on Contrast and Comparison of the Knight and the...

Anais Quinones October 31, 2005 Chaucer BRL 2316 Prof. Tague Contrast and Comparison The Knight and the Wife of Bath In the Canterbury Tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer, the Knight and the Wife of Bath are similar and also different. The Knight represents the nobility and military estate while the Wife of Bath represents the middle status. Both the Knight and the Wife of Bath are fearless. The Knight was a fearless worthy man who fought in the crusades while the Wife of Bath was fearless about her opinions on love, she was outspoken. The Knight and the Wife of Bath were similar in many ways. They both were best in their talents. The Knight was best knight in all nations in Prussia, Aboven alle nacions in Pruce(line 53).†¦show more content†¦The Knight and the Wife of Bath had remedies for other people. The Knights remedy for peoples faith was war, And foughten for oure feith at Tramyssene(line 62). The Wife of Bath knew remedies for love sickness, Of remedies of love she knew per chauce(line 475). She learned tricks of the trade in the game of love, For she koude of that art the oulde dau nce (line 476). Both the Knight and the Wife of Bath were wise. The Knight was worthy and wise, And though that he were worthy, he was wys (line 68). Even though the narrator does not say much about the Knights physical appearance, we can assume that the Knight and the Wife of Bath were not identical. The Wife of Bath was a bold face woman with a red hue complexion, Boold was hire face, and fair, and reed of hewe(line 458). She was also gapped tooth, Gat-tothed was she, smoothly for to seye(line 468) with large hips, A foot-mantel aboute hir hipes large, (line472). The Wife of Bath loves to laugh and chatter, In felawshipe wel koude of that art the olde daunce (line 476). The Knight was as quiet as a maid, And of his portas meeke as is a mayde (line 69). The narrator gives off the impression that the Wife of Bath is a poor woman, That to the offrynge bifore hire sholde goon; And if ther dide, certeyn so wroth was she, That she was out alle charitee, (lines 450-452). Kohlberg`s Three Levels and Six Stages of Moral Reasoning Free Essays

Lawrence Kohlberg, a professor of psychology in the University of Chicago, has created his own theory of moral development. The theory is based on children’s reasoning, when facing moral dilemmas, however, Kohlberg went far beyond that and created a common theory for all ages. Under his theory moral thinking passes through six separate stages, which are broken into three levels. We will write a custom essay sample on Kohlberg`s Three Levels and Six Stages of Moral Reasoning or any similar topic only for you Order Now This paper aims to provide a review of stages and levels proposed by Kohlberg.  The first level is PRE-CONVENTIONAL. This level is more characteristic for children, although it is sometimes passed by adults too. At this level an individual considers exclusively direct consequences of an action for himself. Reasoning at this level is purely egoistic and consists of two stages: Stage 1 An individual concentrates only on direct consequences for himself and the main moral deterrence is fear of punishment. Moral futility of an action is estimated by punishment. The more severe is the punishment, the worse an action is[1]. Stage 2 is characterized by limited interest to the needs of others. However, this interest is of egocentric. A person is interested in getting something for himself for his/her moral behavior[2].  The second level is CONVENTIONAL. This stage is typical for most adults. At this level individuals compare the morality of their actions to social norms and expectations. This level includes the third and fourth stage of moral reasoning. Stage 3 is related to social roles. People act so, as their relatives, friends and members of their group act to receive their praise. Actions are evaluated in terms of personal relationships and social stereotypes. The main deterrence is fear of authority and fear of social condemnation[3]. Stage 4 is similar to stage 3, however it is extended as actions are evaluated in terms of laws and social conventions. Individual needs are overcome at this stage and laws are attributed own value. A distinction between right and wrong in this stage is created by culpability of an action.  The third level is POST-CONVENTIONAL is also called â€Å"principled level†. Actions are evaluated by an individual before they are evaluated by society. A person becomes morally â€Å"autonomous†[4]. The level includes stages 5 and 6. Stage 5 At this stage an individual comes to understanding, that people hold different views and opinions. Laws are understood not only as rules, but as useful social contracts. Those, who act against common good are considered to be morally bad and those have to be changed. The aim of morals is understood as â€Å"as much good for as many people as possible†, which is achieved by decision of the majority. Stage 6 is characterized by abstract reasoning and universality of ethical principles. An individual comes to understanding that any laws may be justified only to the extent they correspond those universal principles[5]. The social consensus is reached after â€Å"seeing the situation from another man’s eyes†. It is firstly necessary to get full understanding of all moral positions on the matter and after that a consensus between those positions should be reached. This action is validated by consent of every person, not only the majority. References 1. Shaffer, David R. (2004). Social and Personality Development, 5th Ed, Wadsworth Publishing 2.
